"I was thrust into Your arms at my birth. You have been my God
from the moment I was born." Psalm 22:9-11
Hi, my name is Donna.
I'm the owner and founder of A Birth Consultant Co. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and am currently working on a Master's Degree in Theology. It's my dream to combine these two passions in order to teach childbirth principles alongside valuable insight from God's Word as it relates to pregnancy and childbirth.
If you're looking for something different than what the world has to offer, then check out our classes! We still teach the traditional information that you want and need to know to prepare for the birth of your baby, but you'll also find the inspiration that only comes from above.
This may be a great time for you to draw closer to the Lord as you get ready to be parents He's planned for you to be. Let us help you welcome this baby from His arms into yours!
"Children are a gift from the Lord.
They are a reward from him."
Psalm 127:3
ABirthCo has been locally owned and operated in Tulsa, serving expectant families since May, 1992. Our classes have been taught by Donna Billingsly Rapp, a mother of four and experienced L&D nurse.
Combining her medical background with having unmedicated births, including a birth at home with a midwife, Donna is able to tailor a childbirth class to fit her students' wide range of needs, whether that might include having an epidural or an unmedicated delivery.
We think you'll appreciate that we limit the size of our classes to keep them small and personal. We also utilize state-of-the-art audio visual aids to enhance your learning experience, as well as allow adequate time for discussion of the information presented.
Although we teach with a spiritual emphasis, we respect and honor the differing belief systems that others may hold. Our goal is to promote unity and fellowship in a comfortable, enjoyable atmosphere where we can seek the favor of the Lord together.
We look forward to helping you prepare for the challenges and rewards of becoming new parents! Our fun and interesting classes provide the information and support you and your labor partner want, as well as the spiritual encouragement that you may need.
Hope to see you soon!

Baby Sign Language on Wednesday from 10am-Noon ($25)
Baby sign language is a great way to help you communicate with your pre-verbal baby. Many people are amazed that babies as young as 6-9 months old can learn sign language. Yet, a baby knows what you are saying before they’re able to speak the words themselves. They develop the fine muscles in their hands long before they develop the muscles in their mouth and tongue which are necessary for speech.
Feb. 22, Mar. 21, April 25, May 23, June 13, or July 18
Baby sign language has numerous benefits. Besides being a lot of fun, it helps you bond with your child. Babies that sign are often less fussy because the baby can tell you what they want instead of crying. Research also shows babies that utilize sign language get a great start in life – with increased vocabularies and more advanced cognitive skills, even years after they have stopped signing.

Doula Classes
What is a doula?
A birth doula is a person trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before during and just after childbirth.
What role does a doula play during birth?
Physicians and nurses are responsible for monitoring labor, assessing the medical condition of the mother and baby, and treating complications when they arise. But childbirth is also an emotional and spiritual experience with long-term impact on a womans personal well being. A doula is constantly aware that the mother and her partner will remember this experience throughout their lives. By mothering the mother. during childbirth the doula supports the parents in
having a positive and memorable birth experience.
What effects does the presence of a doula have on birth outcomes?
Studies show that the presence of a doula results in shorter labor, a reduced need for pain medication, and improved outcomes for both mother and baby. In addition, long-term benefits of labor support include:
• Improved breastfeeding
• Decreased postpartum depression
• Greater maternal satisfaction
• Better mother-infant interaction
What effects does the presence of a doula have on the mother?
When a doula is present during and after childbirth, women report greater satisfaction with their birth experience, make more positive assessments of their babies, have fewer cesareans and requests for medical intervention, and less postpartum depression. The doula also helps to reduce stress for the mother and family and assists with bonding and attachment. It is hoped that the greater the bonding/attachment the less likelihood of child abuse and neglect.
What effects does the presence of a doula have on babies?
Studies have shown that babies born with doulas present tend to have shorter hospital stays with fewer admissions to special care nurseries, breastfeed more easily and have more affectionate mothers in the postpartum period.
What services are available before, during and after labor?
Doula services, Childbirth Education & Lactation Support. The doula first begins with a prenatal visit to see how she can best serve the family. She encourages regular prenatal care, prenatal exercise and prepared childbirth education.
On the second visit, she works on your ideal birth options with the understanding that flexibility and surrender to the process is most beneficial to a healthy labor. The birth preferences are not intended to be a rigid plan or script. They merely communicate the kind of birth you hope to have, so that the medical team can help you achieve it safely.
The doula is on call 4 weeks surrounding your birth. She offers education resources with physical and emotional comfort measures. She is also available for spiritual support, such as prayer and Biblical inspiration if requested. The doula assists and supports the babys father. She helps with skin to skin maternal bonding and breastfeeding. The doula helps you celebrate the birth of your baby as well as the birth of being a new mother and father.
Does a doula make decisions during labor?
A doula does not make decisions for clients or intervene in their clinical care. She provides informational, spiritual and emotional support, while respecting a womans decisions. A doula can provide the information to help parents make appropriate decisions and facilitate communication between the laboring woman, her partner and medical care providers.
Will a doula make the support partner feel unnecessary?
No, a doula is supportive to both the mother and her partner, and plays a crucial role in helping a partner become involved in the birth to the extent he/she feels comfortable.
Who should consider using a doula?
Anyone who is expecting. We believe that it is possible to help strengthen family bonds through improving the experience of birth.
What does a doula cost?
At times you may be able to hire a doula in training who is working on her certification for a reduced fee, but normal prices vary depending upon education and experience. At ABirthCo, we refer our clients to Holy Birth (TM) Ministries, Inc. for doula support. The doulas trained by ABirthCo are independent contractors only and may choose to accept our referrals or not, depending on their case load.
What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A midwife provides prenatal care, delivery of the baby, care of the mother postpartum and newborn care. The midwife is responsible for the safety of the mother and baby.
Doulas do not provide any kind of medical care. For instance, they would not listen to the baby's heart beat or do a vaginal exam or deliver the baby. They do provide emotional, spiritual and physical support for the laboring woman and her family and/or postpartum care of the mother and baby. Doula care has been shown to improve outcomes for both moms and babies in many studies.
What other services does a doula provide?
Birth doula services provide informational, emotional, physical and spiritual support to a woman and her partner during labor and birth. There are also postpartum doulas that provide support in the clients home after the birth; they may help with light housekeeping, cooking, babysitting older siblings, and breastfeeding support.
I'm planning to have an epidural; why should I use a doula?
A doula's support is not only focused on managing pain during childbirth. She is your advocate throughout your labor and birth helping you and your family with any questions or concerns that may arise, helping you understand what your care providers are saying, and attending to your comfort and needs. Should you request pain medication and/or anesthesia, sometimes they do not always arrive at the exact moment you are ready for them. You may benefit from having a doula support you during contractions until you get the relief you are planning on receiving. Once you receive anesthesia, you may not be feeling the intensity of the contractions but you are still having a baby. Your doula will remain with you throughout the birth, as well as the immediate postpartum period to support you and ensure that you and your family's needs are being met.
I'm planning to have a C-Section; why should I use a doula?
Having a cesarean section is having a baby. Your doula is your support and advocate throughout the preparation for surgery, and depending on hospital policies, she may be able to support you in the operating room as well. She will be at your side in the recovery room and can help you and your family with any questions or concerns that may arise, helping you understand what your care providers are saying, and attending to your comfort and needs.
Does a doula replace nursing staff?
No. Doulas do not replace nurses or other medical staff. Doulas do not perform clinical or medical tasks such as taking blood pressure or temperature, monitoring fetal heart rate, doing vaginal examinations or providing postpartum clinical care. They are there to comfort and support the mother and to enhance communication between the mother and medical professionals.
Who is a doula?
A doula is a trained birth companion who:
* Recognizes birth as a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life
* Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
* Assists the woman and her partner in preparing or and carrying out their plans for the birth
* Stays by the side of the laboring woman throughout the entire labor
* Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint and
assistance to the woman in getting the information she needs to make informed decisions
* Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and clinical careproviders
* Nurtures and protects the womans memory of her birth experience
What are the benefits?
Studies have shown these results when a doula is present:
* Fathers participate with more confidence
* Greater success in breastfeeding
* More maternal satisfaction
* Fewer neonatal admissions after birth
* Less pre- and post-natal stress
* Less likelihood of post-partum depression
* Overall cesarean rate decreased 50%
* Length of labor decreased 25%
* Pitocin use decreased 40%
* Mothers request for pain medication decreased 30%
* 40% less need for a forceps delivery

After giving birth about 80% of many new mothers experience blood loss, fatigue, and a drop in their high pregnancy hormones; all of which are considered to be the cause of "baby blues" and postpartum depression. It's so common, typically nothing is done till it's too late and anti-depressants are usually prescribed. Most drugs, including anti-depressants, are passed through breastmilk to the baby, so mothers have to decided to either stop breastfeading or suffer with depression.
Consuming the placenta has been shown through out decades to help stop the baby blues and diminish postpartum fatigue. Placenta capsules can be used to balance your hormones, enhance your milk supply, increase postpartum iron levels, and as well as increase your energy.
Why have us encapsulate your placenta for you?
Normally the placenta is encapsulated within 48 hours after the birth. If you are planning to deliver at home, we will come to your home so you can relax and bond with your new baby and not have to do a thing. If you plan to have a hospital birth, we will give you a consent form so you may obtain your placenta. You will need to discuss this with your caregiver in advance wherever you plan to deliver. If in the hospital, we will pick up your placenta from the hospital and return your capsules to you when they're done, whether you're still in the hospital or at home. Certain restrictions apply to hospital services, and extra fees may be added depending on your location. We bring all the equipment and encapsulation materials with us needed to do the job and follow OSHA guidelines during the preparation of your placenta. We sterilize everything thoroughly, dispose of any waste products and clean up after ourselves.
How to get started
For the standard ABirthCo encapsulation process, the fee is $200. Every placenta is different so we cannot guarantee you how many capsules you will recieve from your placenta, but it will be anywhere from 90-200 pills. We are happy to give you a free estimate of what the exact charges will be and schedule your delivery on our on-call agenda. You may contact us by email for more information or give us a call at your convenience.
We look forward to assisting you with this amazing benefit that no prescription medication, vitamin or herbal supplement can provide !
